Equine New Graduate Vet Position (12-months)

Are you a new graduate vet with an interest in equine reproduction?
Do you seek a supportive environment in which you can learn and develop your skills as an equine ambulatory vet?

About us

The Minster Equine Practice is an equine only ambulatory practice based near York, North Yorkshire. We are a young, dynamic, and enthusiastic team of 6 vets, 4 nursing assistants and 4 office staff. We have a varied caseload including sport and racehorses as well as leisure horses. We are a well equipped ambulatory team with state-of-the-art wireless digital radiography, ultrasound, videoscopes and gastroscopes that enable us to provide a modern ambulatory veterinary service. Our purpose-built clinic in Poppleton and smaller branch at Malton are fully equipped to allow further investigation that cannot be performed out in the field.

What we can offer you

Our experienced vets either hold, or are working towards, an RCVS certificate covering a wide variety of disciplines. We will help you to develop your skills in equine reproduction and AI, diagnostic lameness and medicine investigations. You will receive training in preparing mares for breeding, foal and youngstock care, radiography, ultrasonography and lameness diagnosis. We will coach you when performing nerve blocks, abdominal ultrasonography, gastroscopy and endoscopy.

We offer a generous CPD allowance to assist you in your development and you will also be enrolled on the VetPartners Equine New Graduate Scheme. This means that you will have the opportunity to visit other practices within the VetPartners group, gaining exposure to the hugely varied caseload that equine veterinary medicine has to offer.

Initially you will not be required to undertake out-of-hours visits, but will work closely with our nursing team to care for in-patients. Once you are confident in your skills we will encourage you to attend routine ambulatory calls and you will join the team on an equally shared out-of-hours rota, under supervision if necessary. Our new graduate position is for a fixed term of 12 months. After your year with us you will have many opportunities of employment within our large and exciting group.

A healthy work-life balance is important to us, and so you will enjoy 33 days holiday per year, time off in lieu for weekends spent on-call, as well as a percentage of your out of hours earnings paid on top of your usual wage. We also welcome flexible working requests.

Our aims

Our vision is to become the most highly recommended equine practice in North Yorkshire. We aim to continually improve our clinical standards and customer experience and want our employees to be passionate and enjoy performing at the highest possible level. We will constantly strive to decrease our environmental impact to create the most sustainable equine practice in the UK.
