New Graduate Role

The New Graduate position at the Minster Equine Veterinary Clinic is specifically designed for recently qualified veterinary graduates who wish to specialise in equine general practice. The training position programme is based at our main clinic in Upper Poppleton and lasts for one year. It enables successful candidates to rapidly develop the clinical skills needed to be an equine practitioner in a safe and supportive environment.

The New Graduate is responsible for assisting the admission, evaluation and treatment of cases in the clinic, as well as providing high-level care to our equine in-patients under the supervision of senior clinicians. Our highly practical programme provides high exposure to the diagnostic evaluation of orthopaedic and poor performance cases. The successful candidate also has the opportunity early on to attend visits on their own, but in a graduated and supportive way. Once a certain level of clinical acumen and confidence has been achieved, the New Graduate joins the out of hours rota.

As the Minster Equine Practice is on the BEVA approved AI list, you will also gain experience of reproduction cases throughout the stud season, and will have the opportunity to assist vets out on the road with first opinion cases. Our on-site foaling service at Poppleton means that you will gain hands-on experience of the whole process from conception to foaling and neonatal care.

At the Minster Equine Clinic, New Graduates benefit from working with certificate holders, and will be able to spend time with specialists within the group as well as enrolling on the VetPartners New Graduate Training Programme.

Minster’s New Graduate position is designed for successful candidates to gain practical experience and they will finish their year with all of the skills necessary to feel confident in the vast majority of general equine practice work.

On-site accommodation is provided at Poppleton, where the New Graduate will be required to live during the week. However, until they join the vets out-of-hours rota, there will be no requirement for any weekend duties.

To request more information on the programme please submit your details or contact the Poppleton branch.
