The internship at the Minster Equine Veterinary Clinic is specifically designed for recently qualified veterinary graduates who wish to specialise in equine general practice. The internship programme is based at out main clinic in Upper Poppleton and lasts for one year. It enables successful candidates to rapidly develop the clinical skills needed to be an equine practitioner in a safe and supportive environment.
The interns are responsible for assisting in the admission, evaluation and treatment of cases in the clinic, as well as providing high-level care to our equine in patients under the supervision of senior clinicians. Our highly practical programme provides high exposure to the diagnostic evaluation of orthopaedic and poor performance cases as well as following cases through to surgery and performing anaesthesia. As we are part of the BEVA approved AI list, you will also have exposure to reproduction cases throughout the stud season, and will have the opportunity to assist vets out on the road with first opinion cases.
At the Minster Equine Clinic interns benefit from working with certificate holders, and will be able to work alongside Graham Munroe, a vastly experienced equine surgeon.
Our internship programme is designed for you to gain practical experience and our interns finish their year with all the skills necessary to make an easy transition into general equine practice. The on call rota is 1:2, however as a first opinion practice we do not admit emergencies into our clinic, so your evening and weekend duties will mainly involve caring for in-patients from the week, leaving plenty of time to refuel for the week ahead.
