Kaitlyn writes:
I’m currently competing Novice dressage, 80cm Showjumping and 70cm Cross-Country side saddle with a view to competing 95cm Showjumping and 80cm Cross-Country by the end of the summer. My competition horse, Memphis Belle (Bella), is 12 years old. I bought her three years ago and we have learned so much about jumping and side saddle together. She’s a 16.3hh, grey Irish sports horse. I love taking her to competitions and hacking, but we also do historical re-enactments, side saddle displays and we’ve recently taking up cow working. Bella has an incredible work ethic and once she understands her job she really gets into it, whatever it is.

I’m passionate about side saddle history and riding, and compete regularly against astride riders. Bella and I are currently the Side Saddle Association (SSA) Cross Country Champion and recently won Champion in the SSA Arena Eventing Challenge. My proudest moment was winning first at the Port Royal EEC One-Day-Event in January as the only side saddle rider against many astride riders. This season I would like to compete in more One-Day-Events and hunter trials astride and aside, gaining confidence and experience as we both need it!

Next year, according to my plan, we’ll be out doing horse trials all over the North, showing what an amateur (and older!) rider can accomplish.

It takes a team to keep that plan on track and I’m so grateful for the support of Minster Equine Clinic to keep my horses healthy and happy since the beginning.

I also keep another big grey, Jimbob, a 17hh Irish draft, who has featured in many re-enactments all over the country. He’s 19 and a lovely chap. Being a veteran, his needs are very different, so it’s a challenge keeping them both engaged during training.
